Lily

For Muuto

The aim of this project was to design a piece of furniture for a contemporary furniture company. The challenge was to understand the guiding design principles from the company’s existing range and apply them to a new design with respect to factors such as functionality, materials, finishes and construction. The company I chose was the Danish furniture brand, Muuto.

  • IDEATION

    I set out to design a piece of furniture that was harmonious with modern tech products. The idea of cord management is nothing new in furniture but something not addressed within Muuto's range.

  • PRODUCTION

    Having settled on a design that incorporated a notch to subtly obscure cables, I began making full size mockups.

  • SYMPATHETIC

    Lily incorporates cord management features without compromising on elegance.

  • MATERIALS

    Lily is composed of Ash turned legs, a lathed MDF tray and a cork insert. The cork insert acts as a dampener for phone vibrations and a bevelled edge guides cables into the slot.
